Rewilding Intern Job Description:

The Rewilding Intern will play a key role in supporting our ecological monitoring programme. Working closely with the rewilding project officer, the intern will assist with surveys, data management, and long-term monitoring tasks that contribute to our understanding of local biodiversity and habitat change.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct weekly bumblebee and butterfly surveys

  • Assist with botanical quadrat surveys, worm surveys, camera trapping, and conservation grazing

  • Upload survey data to national monitoring schemes, including BeeWalk and the UK Butterfly Monitoring Scheme (UKBMS).

  • Maintain internal records by uploading survey data to our SharePoint drive.

  • Take monthly permanent photo points to document habitat changes and rewilding progress.

  • Maintenance across the site such as cutting paths, replacing tree guards, and invasive species control. N.B: this will include use of power tools, including brush cutter and scythe mower.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Social media content creation to communicate sightings, survey trends, and habitat changes.

  • Engage with and support volunteers that attend bee and butterfly transects to help them build basic ID and survey skills.

The Intern will be a part of a small but enthusiastic and hard-working team who work closely together to manage and monitor the land, whilst creating opportunities for the community to get involved. With time, support, and training, the Intern will be expected to carry out the weekly bumblebee and butterfly surveys independently, potentially accompanied by a volunteer. A flexible approach and an eagerness to learn and get stuck in is essential to the role, as is a willingness to share this learning with others.

This role is not suitable for hybrid or home working, and so it is essential that the candidate is living in the area and able to travel to the Denmarkfield site. This is an entry level role that was created to act as a stepping stone for those seeking careers in the environmental sector and a way of creating opportunities for local people who can grow in the role. It is therefore a great opportunity for someone looking to gain skills and experience that are foundational for a career in this sector, within a supportive team environment.
