Projects
While we have been letting nature lead and taking a hands-off approach to nature restoration, we have also implemented some rewilding initiatives. This means that we have been helping nature along where necessary. Find out more about our different projects below.

Seed islands
We have planted seed islands - small enclosures containing various missing or under-represented native tree and shrub species. The islands are protected from herbivores and can help enhance seed dispersal through the site, aiding natural regeneration.

Woodland corridors
West Field was the focal point for woodland creation, taking a low density approach that prioritised under-represented species of shrubs and trees. We then created wildlife corridors by planting native trees and hedges which connect this woodland to other ancient fragments that surround the site. This planting provides a variety of connected habitats for different species.

Species rich grasslands
Our site is located on the floodplain of the River Tay. It would have hosted vast species-rich grasslands before it was intensively farmed and developed. We have carefully restored pockets of this precious habitat using native seed mixes of Scottish provenance. Providing habitat and nectar source for pollinators is critically important in the context of significant pollinator declines across the country.

Wetland creation
Wetlands support a rich tapestry of wildlife and can help mitigate local flooding. We have created several wetland scrapes to allow this floodplain to hold more water and support more biodiversity. Seasonally changing and always evolving, our scrapes are intermittent wetlands which support an array of wildlife.

Conservation cattle
Cattle grazing provides a host of benefits including maintaining an open mosaic habitat as natural succession progresses. We have worked with a local organic farmer to host a small herd of cows seasonally, adopting a mob grazing approach.

Fungi4Restor
In collaboration with Forest Research and the University of Reading, we have an experimental plot to investigate different methods of restoring soil ecology on ex-arable sites and reintroducing missing mycorrhizal fungi.
